TBIK 12.28.12

TBIK Everyone!

This is our last TBIK for 2012! Can you believe it? Lots of wonderful changes happened this year. And I’m sure 2013 will bring many more (including my newly painted kitchen – before and after pics to come soon!)
TBIK 12.28.12
This is how I wish 2012 was ending. With me and Aubrey chillin’ in our Santa hats…but that is an obvious fake.

She is in Kansas, tearing it up with the one and only Paige!

(such cute sisters!)

Happy Friday!!!!

TBIK 12.21.12

Well, looks like we survived the Mayan Apocalypse!
Yippee! Buddha helped me through the hard times.
I’m glad I didn’t end up like this…
End of the World
I am also glad I didn’t end up like Aubrey…

I love your “uniqueness” Aubrey!

We hope you have a fantastic Friday and an even better Christmas!!

First Snow of the Season!

It snowed in KC! It’s Christmas! It is so beautiful. Although it’s cold and driving conditions aren’t ideal, I wouldn’t have it any other way. So here it the view from my apartment this morning. I was like oh awesome. And then I got to  my car and spent the next 20 minutes shoveling snow off my car… which I haven’t done the past 3 years in Cali so yeah that was as fun as I remember it to be. 😉

In other news, my brother is getting married in 3 weeks and I can’t believe it is already here! Paige and I are hosting a bridal brunch the day before and we made these cute invites! Found the paper for $12 at Paper Source, printed at Kinko’s for $5 and mailed through my work for free. A heck of a deal I’d say.

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope it’s filled with friends, family, presents, alcohol and dogs!!!!

DIY – Spiked Cocoa Gift

For the past couple of years I have been making gifts for my friends and co-workers in mason jars. Well, this year was no different!

Spiked Cocoa!
I layered hot cocoa mix, chocolate chips and mini marshmallows in a mason jar and then tied some booze to the side. This one has peppermint schnapps, but I mixed it up and did some with Baileys.
My little gift came complete with instructions.
See what you would be getting today if you still lived in CA Aubrey? Miss you!

Adopt-A-Family Christmas

Every Christmas, my core group of girlfriends (the same ones who had the pinterest picnic and went apple picking) and I have a bra and panty exchange. I can’t remember how many years we have been doing it, but it usually ends up with us taking a picture of everyone’s new undies hanging from a Christmas tree.

Well, Thanksgiving rolled around (when we usually distribute names for the exchange) and Katie (see my Tajin experience post to put names to faces) had the idea of adopting a family instead of doing our panty exchange. Of course we all jumped on the adopt-a-family train and quickly said yes. (I was just a little bit sad we were not exchanging panties this year, but I quickly got over it)
The family we received was a single Mom household. She had 2 boys, age 2 and 3 and then a newborn baby girl. We all had a blast shopping for these little kids (because none of us have kids to buy for) and had a wrapping present brunch at my house to finish up the job.

Check out this stack of gifts! I hope our adopt-a-family has the best Christmas ever!

Are you in a bathroom??

Guess that is what we get considering she is stuck at work in new hire training all day.

Happy Friday everyone!

I’m baaaaack!

Megan almost de-friended me due to my lack of posting but I’m back!  A big shout out to all her awesome posts!!!!!  How about that San Francisco birthday trip!? Jeal!

I was hoping to post about my long road trip from CA to KS but unfortunately my sister took all the pictures and still hasn’t sent them to me.  The move went smoothly but I terribly miss so much of CA, especially Megan. 🙂 On the other hand, I absolutely love Kansas City and know it’s where I belong. There is so much to look forward to and I couldn’t be happier.

Have you ever read the article 30 things every woman should know/have before you’re 30? One of them is to live alone and I decided to do just that!  The best part is that I can decorate however I please. You all have to have/have had a roommate that has to put in their two cents, yeah? Sometimes it’s OK but most the time it’s just annoying.

I want it to be exactly what I want. But I can’t.  I definitely need a few more paychecks… So, in the meantime, I have refurbished some furniture from my parents.  I spray painted and recovered a couple of chairs.  Two for the dining table and one for my vanity…photo7photo3photo4photo5photo6

And I found a stencil from the one and only Pinterest and decided to paint the wall behind my vanity.  I really want a bright funky wallpaper there but this will work for now! Not the best pictures…

photophoto2There is more to come so tuned!!

Birthday Weekend in San Francisco!

So, I am back from my birthday weekend in San Francisco, and it was AWESOME!!

Here is what we did (warning – picture heavy post – photo credit: husband) San Fran day 1

We arrived in San Fran at 8:15 am on Friday morning. Hopped on BART and headed to the most amazing apartment ever.

My parents’ friends aka super nice people, let us stay here! Look at this view! Market and Pine. Right in the middle of the Financial district. Yes, that is the Ferry Building you see right down the street and the Bay Bridge!!

Seriously. This was our view. And yes, I spied on all the nearby buildings with those binoculars. Who wouldn’t?

Ok, after we dropped off our luggage we set off to China Town.

It was POURING. That didn’t stop us! We loved it! Plus, it gave me a reason to wear my rainboots 🙂

After wandering around for an hour or so we stopped to take a pic.

We happened to stop right in front of a restaurant, Great Eastern Restaurant, so we decided to have an early lunch.

It was early and the restaurant was packed! Neither of us really knew what the menu items were so we just started ordering, and ordering, and ordering. We WAY over ordered, but it was soooo good.

Then we set off and walked down to the wharves.

Checked out all the old boats

And then jumped on the cable car!

We got off at Union Square

Checked out the tree and then walked back to the apartment to change for my birthday dinner!

We decided to dine at my parents’ favorite San Francisco restaurant, Tadich Grill.

Tadish Grill

It claims to be the oldest restaurant in California.

I ordered the Cioppino – something I have never ordered and was not disappointed!

The wait staff was really nice (we ate at the bar because that is just what you do there) and I had to wear a bib.

Then, my sweet husband said he had to go to the bathroom, but really asked the waiter to bring me a birthday dessert!

It was sooo yummy.

After dinner we walked back to the apartment and shared a bottle of wine with husbands uncle Chuck (he lives in the city). We drank wine and soaked in the killer view.

I could look at this all night long

Perfect ending to the perfect birthday.

San Fran day 2

Next morning we woke up bright and early (yes it was still raining) and walked to the Ferry Building

Ferry Building

which is full of cute stands/shops for some coffee

and breakfast.

We dined at San Francisco Fish Company.

I had the breakfast burrito with Dungeness Crab!

It was so yummy!

After fueling up we started walking in the rain towards Fisherman’s Warf.

Husband(isn’t he cute!)

On the way there we stopped to look at some seals.

You think I was excited?

Then we walked by the Boudin Factory

Boudin(they pump out the bread smell – amazing)

and checked out the crab stands.

The crab man let me hold a live one! YIKES!

Then we headed over to Ghirardelli for a sundae!

Ice cream for lunch? Yes please!

The inside was adorable. Just like an old school ice cream shop.

After pigging out on sundaes, we headed back over to pier 33 to head to Alcatraz!

The boat ride over was cold and rainy, but we cuddled up.

Getting closer!

The Rock

The Rock

It was getting dark (we took the night tour) when we arrived so it added to the spookiness 🙂

Cell Block

I went in to all the cells I could.

Prison(this is my prison face)

And even checked out the hospital wing.

I loved every second of it and wanted to explore the island, but it was dark and rainy so we just headed back to the apartment.

San Fran Day 3

On our last day in San Francisco it was (you guessed it) raining!

That didn’t stop us! We headed to brunch with Uncle Chuck and then walked to Fort Mason

Fort Mason

We walked up to the top of the park

Park lovers

where we got our glimpse of the Golden Gate Bridge

See it wayyyyyy over there?

Well, that about sums up our wonderful weekend in the city! Thank you husband for the best birthday ever!
